HOW TELEMATICS HELPS SAVE FUEL AND AVOID FUEL THEFT

Most people think about telematics in terms of tracking their vehicles. Where are they? How long until they get to their destination? And that’s quite correct; telematics can do all that. But it can do a lot more as well. Particularly when you connect your fuel card account to your telematics account.

WEX Telematics and Esso Card™ work perfectly together. You could even say they were made for each other. By combining the two, you start to understand more about your vehicles and their fuel consumption… and that can be enlightening.

Let’s look at an example:
Say you have two drivers (A and B). Both drive the same type of vehicle that is about the same age with similar mileage. Both do about the same mileage each year. Your WEX Telematics device tells you that they are both reasonable drivers; not accelerating too aggressively, cornering too fast or breaking too violently. In fact, Driver B scores a bit better than Driver A on the driver score.

But, because you have your Esso Card™ integrated with the WEX Telematics, you can see that Driver B is only getting 20 Miles Per Gallon (MPG) compared to Driver A who gets 30 MPG. That means Driver B is using nearly 1,900 litres more fuel than Driver A per year. That’s costing your business an extra £2,000 in fuel a year.

If that was happening across 10 vehicles you would be losing over £20,000 a year.
