Can Cloud Computing Work for Your Fleet?

June 15, 2015

One of the biggest technology trends around today is cloud computing. The “cloud” is where a remote network is used to store and share information – you can upload important data and access it from anywhere, on a variety of devices.

Of course, the cloud today is full of nuances, and it can be used for a wide range of purposes. The question then becomes: Can cloud computing work for your fleet?

The cloud provides room to grow
Cloud computing can be a fantastic asset for your fleet for several reasons. One of the biggest is flexibility – by utilizing the cloud, your business has more room to grow.

According to TruckingInfo.com, having devices that are connected to the cloud will make it much easier for you to store and access information. In addition, these devices can also have features – as well as users – added as your company expands.

“When you have your IT assets in the cloud and accessible the way they should be, you are sort of future-proof in many ways,” Jeff Baer, founder and CEO of LinkeDrive, told the news source.

Cloud works no matter your size
Perhaps best of all, the cloud is a fantastic way to save money, not just for fleet management, but for your company as a whole. And, the cloud can be incorporated into your business, no matter your size.

Rickard Andersson, a senior analyst with Berg Insight AB, spoke to TechTarget about the growing relationship between fleet management and the cloud. One reason many companies are using this technology is because it is cheaper and easier on smaller in-house servers. While the big fleet can use the cloud for cost savings, so too can the little guys. Fleets that have been able to use the cloud include vans, service trucks, long-haul trucks and various government fleets.

Overall, your fleet can make cloud computing work. However, it is important to remember that your strategy moving forward depends on several key factors. Those include the size of your fleet, your existing technology and the ability to train employees on any new devices or gadgets. Cloud computing can save you time, money, and improve your efficiency – but you must make sure you are implementing any new strategies in the right way.

Once that is done, you can turn the cloud into a valuable resource for your fleet.
