Telehealth services remain one of the hottest new benefits being offered by employers. It provides a fast and convenient way for employees to seek non-emergency care. Virtual care offers a method of delivering healthcare services that allow employees to save time and money.

Workforces today are mobile with employees working from homes, remote locations; anywhere their mobile phones, tablets, and laptops can pickup a connection. They’re ready for their healthcare to be mobile too.

Many physicians are seeing the value of telehealth services and looking to incorporate telehealth into their primary care practices to provide seamless care coordination for their patients. Some insurers are creating additional financial incentives for physicians to expand their telehealth offerings to include electronic visits, urgent care visits and other online reimbursed services like specialist consultations.

Because employees can use virtual care for colds, sinus infections, the flu, etc. for themselves and their family members without the stress of going and waiting in a doctor’s office there is 24/7 care available that can help them avoid lost work time. Employees and their family members can receive care anytime. Telehealth services give employees the ability to “visit” with physicians online or over the phone, which is especially convenient for employees living in rural areas, those that are traveling or those short on time, creating efficiencies for employees and hopefully, cutting down on lost productivity.

Affordable Care

Telehealth visits often cost $45 on average, compared to costly non-emergency urgent care and emergency room visits that can cost hundreds of dollars. As more health plans incorporate telemedicine visits into their pay schedule these visits could become even more cost effective.

No Wait

There’s a reason that now more than 50% of large employers offer medical coverage for virtual care. Telehealth visits mean employees don’t lose time in waiting rooms and incur time away for doctor’s visits, which can equate to lost productivity. Being able to receive care and treatment more quickly means employees can feel better sooner.

Telehealth visits are only going to get quicker and more convenient as technology continues to integrate into health care.
