Compared to our inaugural internship program last summer, our 2018 session dramatically increases the number of positions offered and expands its reach to multiple WEX locations. The program gets off to a fast start in January with the posting of more than 50 intern positions and the roll-out of on-campus events at 22 schools throughout the U.S. – more than doubling our 2017 program reach.
“Unlike many other intern programs, we put all of our jobs up first, and then have one-on-one conversations with students at our recruiting events about WEX and specific work opportunities,” says intern program coordinator Gimbala Sankare. “Our program is based on building relationships and giving students access to hiring managers and leaders when we’re on campus. We want to help students with their personal and professional development, as well as identify high-performing individuals with the potential to be full-time WEXers.”
Expanded Opportunities & Horizons
Sankare is excited to be scaling our intern program to reach more students and more of our North American locations in 2018. This year, internships will be available at WEX offices in Tennessee, Utah, Minnesota, Connecticut and North Dakota, as well as in our Maine headquarters. The four components of the curriculum created for our 2017 program – work, leadership interaction, community interaction and social activity – will remain the same.
The expanded geography means we’ll also be visiting schools in these locations from January 22 through the end of February. Like last year, hiring managers will be participating at many of these on-campus events – in some cases making on-the-spot offers to students.
The WEX Talent Acquisition team and our hiring managers will be on campus to meet with students interested in WEX internships and full-time opportunities at the following schools: Babson College, Bates College, Belmont University, Bentley University, Bowdoin College, Brigham Young University, Colby College, Fisk University, Lipscomb University, Saint Joseph’s College, Tennessee State University, Thomas College, Trevecca Nazarene University, University of Maine Law, University of Maine Orono, University of New Hampshire, University of Southern Maine, University of Utah, Utah State University (Logan), Utah Valley University (Provo), Vanderbilt and Webber State. Check with your school’s career office for more information.
In the spirit of spreading the word about our intern program, we hosted the Maine Consortium of Career Counselors at our headquarters in January. This meeting gave more than 20 career counselors an advance look at our internship job descriptions, as well as a chance to learn more about WEX. Armed with this information, these counselors are ready to guide students to WEX postings and campus events.
Intern job descriptions will be posted on January 20th in our career center, and students are encouraged to get applications in early, as the positions are competitive and fill up quickly. “Our program is all about finding the best and brightest students who want a challenging and engaging internship experience that offers a competitive salary and the chance for real career development,” says Sankare.
