A drive to learn, along with guidance from mentors, have been defining characteristics for Heather Andrews’ career – both before and at WEX. Her post-college job doing retirement plan education excited and inspired her as that industry was undergoing rapid change. Andrews returned to school to earn her master’s degree in leadership and organizational change management – ideally positioning her as a consultant to companies facing major system changes.
Inspired Career Growth for Andrews
Andrews’ role at WEX began by providing communications planning and business consulting to a startup tech firm. She built a new benefits platform over the years with the company that eventually became WEX’s health line of business. She notes that helping grow WEX Health to its current success is her greatest professional achievement to date. Mentors have been an important part of her success, most notably a female WEX Health attorney who shared insights on why female business leaders have to be true to themselves.
New opportunities to learn and grown continue to unfold for Andrews as she’s made the move from healthcare to her current role on the WEX corporate payments executive leadership team. “Ethics and hard work have been important factors in my career, but I know that doors were opened for me because people had faith in what I can do, and then I was not afraid to step through them,” she says.
Each month, The Glass Hammer featured the stories and achievements of female WEX employees to help women in the professional world reach higher in their careers.
