Postcards from President’s Club: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Trip to Ireland

When it comes to making our people feel appreciated, we like to pull out all the stops. Our President’s Club is the biggest stop of them all. Each year, through a peer-nominated process, we award WEXers who most embody our company values and a guest of their choice with a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience. And no, these trips aren’t a ploy for us to sneak in some leadership training or team building. While we do provide an itinerary, our only expectation of these winners is to explore a new location, to eat, drink and be merry, and to spend time with other WEXers from around the world. This year, winners came from offices throughout the U.S., as well as the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.

Last month, 45 of our 46 winners and their guests traveled to Killarney, Ireland, an area with no shortage of culture, outdoor activities and massive ancient castles. (Previous destinations have included Aruba, Bermuda, St. John, Jamaica and Cancun, and last year’s winners went to Portugal.) Hosted by WEX’s CEO and other members of the leadership team, winners explored southwest Ireland, and the tab was on us—and the pleasure was all ours—as they enjoyed tea and scones at the luxurious Adare Manor, feasted their eyes on the majestic Gap of Dunloe and Cliffs of Moher, dined with a local family and enjoyed stays at The Europe Hotel and Dromoland Castle, both five-star accommodations.

What All President’s Club Winners Have in Common

So were the President’s Club winners just enjoying the luck of the Irish? Absolutely not! They had been winnowed down from a record 538 nominations for 330 employees from around the world (that’s out of 3,300 total WEX employees worldwide). CEO Melissa Smith announced the 2017 winners of President’s Club earlier this year at an Irish-themed company event.

The next round of President’s Club nominations will be accepted at the end of this year and are open to any WEXer who embodies our five core values:

  • Innovation: We cultivate an environment of creativity, thought leadership and best-practice sharing.
  • Execution: We are accountable to drive consistent delivery on our commitments.
