WEX and Esso Card: A One Year Anniversary Celebration Video

To celebrate the one year anniversary of the completion of WEX’s purchase of ExxonMobil’s Esso Card, we have released a new video to commemorate the deal and its lasting effects on WEX, Esso, and the entire fleet payments market in Europe.

Background

Announced in July 2014, WEX’s acquisition of ExxonMobil’s European commercial fuel card Esso Card improved the reach of WEX globally, and allowed fleet managers the increased visibility and control provided by technologies from WEX.

Completed through WEX Europe Services Limited, WEX CEO Melissa Smith was quoted,

“The purchase of the Esso Card portfolio remains an important element to building our on-the-ground presence in the European market, and enhances WEX’s long-term growth profile. Our efforts to advance this transaction remain on track and position us to create a substantial and profitable European footprint,”

Under the terms of the transaction, WEX purchased ExxonMobil’s commercial fleet fuel card program including operations, funding, pricing, and sales and marketing in nine countries in Europe.

Over the course of the year, WEX has expanded its customer service, marketing, and data to improve the experience of fleet customers using the Esso Card program. Opening new locations, hiring new employees to meet the demands, and working closely with ExxonMobil, Esso Card looks to become the most attractive fuel card program throughout Europe.
