Some retailers around Melbourne have hiked up petrol prices to around 189.9cpl – indicating that a new fuel price cycle may begin just a few days out from Christmas, which is normally very unusual.  Being that the current average price of ULP is still relatively low compared to other capitals, it will be interesting to see if other retailers follow suit now, or hold off until after Christmas.

Brisbane

Current ULP average: 153.3cpl

Price range over the last week: 137.9cpl – 189.9cpl

It is most likely that there will be a petrol price increase for Brisbane after Christmas, with no indication of the expected new fuel price cycle so far which is fortunate for Brisbane motorists as they head into the break.

Sydney

Current ULP average: 166.8cpl

Price range over the last week: 144.9cpl – 193.9cpl

As predicted, fuel prices across Sydney decreased at a very slow pace during the past week.

Melbourne

Current ULP average: 149.6 cpl

Price range over the last week: 134.9cpl – 189.9cpl

The fuel price increase to 189.9cpl has not been followed by the majority of retailers across Melbourne, who are normally hesitant to increase prices just before Christmas. This fuel price hike shown by a small number of retailers however may be the initial signs of a new petrol price cycle, where trends could start rising after the 25th.

Adelaide

Current ULP average: 159.2cpl

Price range over the last week: 138.9cpl – 185.7cpl

Great news for motorists heading into the Christmas break – Adelaide is now entering the low part of their current fuel price cycle after having reached its peak last week.

Perth

Current ULP average: 163.5cpl

Price range over the last week: 137.7cpl – 189.9cpl

The next petrol price increase for Perth is due on the 29th of December, indicating they are currently at the midpoint of their current fuel price cycle.

Darwin

Current ULP average: 168.2cpl

Price range over the last week: 131.9cpl – 169.9cpl

As per usual, only a very small movement in fuel prices for Darwin this week.

Hobart

Current ULP average: 177.2cpl

Price range over the last week: 153.9cpl – 185.7cpl

Hobart fuel prices dipped only slightly this week.

Darwin – 165.3cpl

Again, only very minor changes with diesel prices for each capital this week.
