This is the week where we generally see massive petrol price increases – it will just be a matter of which cities, when, and how quickly prices will peak. Judging by Adelaide’s fuel price trends, it is most likely prices around the country will range from the mid to high 180’s. After the majority of retailers heavily discounted pump prices during the previous week, keep an eye on Brisbane and Melbourne markets in particular this coming week as they enter their new price cycles.

Brisbane

Current ULP average: 157.3cpl

Price range over the last week: 139.9cpl – 193.7cpl

The massive drop in unleaded petrol (ULP) prices this week indicates that it is very likely Brisbane is about to enter a new fuel price cycle.

Sydney

Current ULP average: 173.5cpl

Price range over the last week: 145.7cpl – 193.9cpl

There was an overall slow downward movement in fuel price trends this week. Unfortunately for Sydney motorists, petrol prices are most likely looking to stay high during the Christmas period.

Melbourne

Current ULP average: 150.0cpl

Price range over the last week: 132.9cpl – 185.5cpl

On average, retailers dropped average fuel prices by at least 10cpl across Melbourne this week – a handy time for motorists to fill up just before the next fuel price cycle, which is due before Christmas.

Adelaide

Current ULP average: 152.3cpl

Price range over the last week: 129.9cpl – 188.9cpl

While average fuel prices dropped over the past week allowing motorists to fill up at very low pump prices, ULP prices significantly increased over the past day, crowning Adelaide as the highest priced capital city this week. Average fuel prices are looking to remain around the 180cpl mark.

Perth

Current ULP average: 144.3cpl

Price range over the last week: 138.9cpl – 175.9cpl

With the bottom of the 2-week price cycle having come and gone on Tuesday, today’s new price increase is expected to range in the mid to high 180’s.

Darwin

Current ULP average: 168.3cpl

Price range over the last week: 131.9cpl – 169.9cpl

Another very small increase in fuel prices for Darwin this week.

Hobart

Current ULP average: 177.9cpl

Price range over the last week: 159.9pl – 183.6cpl

A slight change from last week, Hobart experienced a 0.5cpl drop in fuel prices.

Retail diesel prices

Current Diesel averages:

ACT – 167.1cpl

Adelaide – 167.1cpl

Brisbane – 158.1cpl

Darwin – 162.0cpl

Hobart – 175.6cpl

Melbourne – 162.4cpl

Perth – 161.3cpl

Sydney – 161.9cpl

Adelaide again remains the lowest-priced capital for diesel this week, otherwise relatively stable price trends across the country this week.

Wholesale trends

An increase in wholesale petrol prices this week, with a 2.3cpl rise in average TGP prices.

Similarly, there was an increase in wholesale diesel prices, with average TGP prices rising by 2.1cpl.
