Price cycles for Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne are likely to hit the peak of the price cycle by Wednesday or Thursday this week. Retailers will try to avoid putting prices up before the holiday break – we’ll continue to monitor the price cycles. For the meantime, all major states apart from Perth, now is a great time to fill up just before the holiday break!

Brisbane

Current ULP average: 173.6cpl

Price range over the last week: 158.9cpl – 228.9cpl

Brisbane saw a new price cycle this week – though it’s been a slow spread we are now seeing approximately 20% of retailers moving prices up to 199.9 for ULP.

Sydney

Current ULP average: 178.2cpl

Price range over the last week: 150.9cpl – 209.9cpl

Similar to Brisbane the new cycle in Sydney is considered the most advance across the east coast with almost 27% of retailers increasing ULP prices to 205.9cpl

Melbourne

Current ULP average: 172.7cpl

Price range over the last week: 154.9cpl – 210.8cpl

Slightly different for motorists in Melbourne, 15 of retail locations have moved their ULP prices to 199.9cpl but we are expecting to see this spread across the city quickly in the next few days.

Adelaide

Current ULP average: 168.4cpl

Price range over the last week: 157.3cpl – 204.2cpl

Adelaide’s prices dropped over the last week with ULP prices at 199.9cpl. Motorists in Adelaide may be able to see lower prices now until Christmas as long as there is no unforeseeable price jump within the next few days.

Perth

Current ULP average: 162.1cpl

Price range over the last week: 152.3cpl – 199.9cpl

Prices in Perth are at the bottom of the price cycle with ULP prices about to increase up to 199.9cpl this coming Wednesday.

Darwin (no price cycle)

Current ULP average: 179.1cpl

Price range over the last week: 172.5cpl – 189.9cpl

Very small drop for Darwin prices over the week.

Hobart (no price cycle)

Current ULP average: 184.1cpl

Price range over the last week: 172.9cpl – 199.9cpl

Hobart prices fell almost 5cpl in the last week.

Retail diesel prices

Current Diesel averages:

ACT – 221.4cpl

Adelaide – 201.3cpl,

Brisbane – 217.9cpl

Darwin – 223.6cpl

Hobart – 220.4cpl

Melbourne – 216.6cpl

Perth – 196.9cpl

Sydney – 212.8cpl

Retail diesel continues to drop off the back of the recent wholesale price drops, though we may start to see prices spike up again within the next week or so, thanks to wholesale prices spiking soon.

Wholesale trends

Wholesale petrol prices decreased this week with average TGP prices going up/going down by 3.3cpl.

Wholesale diesel prices decreased this week with average TGP prices going up/going down by 2.3cpl.
