With petrol price cycles in full swing in across most capital cities and expect to see prices in Adelaide to spike as well, we are going to see a real peak in national average petrol prices. Depending on the timing of this, it could feature heavily in cost of living measures over the coming weeks.

Brisbane

Current ULP average: 200.5cpl

Price range over the last week: 161.9cpl – 219.9cpl

The majority of locations in Brisbane have now increased prices with the predominant price for unleaded 91 now 207.9cpl. 

Sydney

Current ULP average: 198.0cpl

Price range over the last week: 155.9cpl – 209.9cpl

A significant portion of Sydney retail locations have moved prices up in this latest price cycle. The peak price for E10 is 205.9cpl, which is now the predominant price in most suburbs.

Melbourne

Current ULP average: 202.9cpl

Price range over the last week: 159.9cpl – 214.5cpl

Melbourne is tracking in a similar way to Brisbane and Sydney at 11% of locations to have moved prices up to 207.9cpl for unleaded 91.

Adelaide

Current ULP average: 168.2cpl

Price range over the last week: 155.5cpl – 197.9cpl

Adelaide is by far the lowest priced capital right now. This might not last much longer though as the new price cycle could be on its way any day now. The first signs of this are evident, with several locations now putting prices up to 199.9cpl for unleaded 91.

Perth

Current ULP average: 170.3cpl

Price range over the last week: 157.3cpl – 209.5cpl

Perth’s average price is a couple of cents higher than last week. We can expect to see Wednesday’s peak price hit somewhere around 9cpl again this coming week.

Darwin

Current ULP average: 181.5cpl

Price range over the last week: 175.5cpl – 183.9cpl

No changes for Darwin again this week.

Hobart

Current ULP average: 181.5cpl

Price range over the last week: 171.9cpl – 192.9cpl

A very small increase for Hobart in the past week.

Retail diesel prices

Current Diesel averages:

ACT – 195.4cpl

Adelaide – 175.0cpl

Brisbane – 186.5cpl

Darwin – 203.2cpl

Hobart – 189.1cpl

Melbourne – 184.3cpl

Perth – 176.2cpl

Sydney – 183.9cpl

A mixed bag for retail diesel prices in the capitals – some small movements both up and down.

Wholesale trends

Wholesale petrol prices decreased this week with average TGP prices going down by 0.3cpl.

Wholesale diesel prices decreased this week with average TGP prices going down by 0.4cpl.
