WEX launches new Developer Center to accelerate innovation across the health and benefits ecosystem

API-first platform empowers builders with self-service tools and seamless scalability to turn integrations into growth drivers, not bottlenecks

Designed to support the next generation of integrations and self-service tools within benefits administration, the portal will serve as a centralized hub for seamless, real-time API (Application Programming Interface) access, live testing environments, and intuitive documentation. 

By modernizing workflows and enhancing visibility, WEX is committed to empowering developers to innovate and scale by allowing them to explore, test, and manage integrations with clarity and confidence.

Unlike standalone API providers, the Developer Center is built directly into WEX’s robust, proprietary financial and benefits infrastructure. This integration allows partners to tap into more than 40 years of specialized expertise in payments, providing seamless access to WEX’s global payment technology.

The WEX Developer Center is designed to meet the demands of a modern, API-driven ecosystem where technical teams are expected to move faster with fewer resources, to launch integrations in weeks instead of months. 

Key features of the portal include:

• Speed & Onboarding: With the Developer Center, all WEX Benefits APIs will, for the first time, become accessible under a single, modern portal with consistent standards across the Health & Benefits ecosystem.
• Self-Service Sandbox: Builders will be able to accelerate development cycles with a sandbox that replicates production logic and data structures for safe, end-to-end testing, as well as instantly validate responses and simulate edge cases to cut weeks off integration timelines. 
• AI-Assisted Documentation: Instead of navigating hundreds of pages of static guides, developers will be able to utilize an integrated, AI assistant grounded in WEX’s OpenAPI specifications. That way, builders can focus their time on creating high-value features rather than chasing forms. 

Partners can use the Developer Center to embed WEX capabilities directly into their platforms – connecting eligibility, account, and transaction data to deliver real-time experiences and faster onboarding at scale. This flexible architecture is designed to allow partners to integrate once and expand across new products, clients, and channels throughout the WEX ecosystem without the need for rework.

Beyond the support for developers and IT teams with building and testing integrations, this portal is also designed to improve operational efficiencies for benefits administration managers and WEX partners, allowing them to self-serve without relying on WEX support.

The Developer Center follows the success of WEX reducing claims reimbursement times by more than 98% through its AI-powered claims tool, increasing integration and automation across its platform to ensure partners have a breakthrough advantage. Additionally, this launch follows a period of significant momentum for WEX’s Benefits segment. Following a strong open enrollment season, WEX reported a 2026 Q1 quarterly benefits segment revenue increase of 8.5% year-over-year, with HSA accounts, including partner channel accounts, growing 8% year-over-year to 9.4 million.
