WEX Named to Fortune’s 100 Fastest-Growing Companies

August 17, 2019

Thanks to our tremendous growth and new marketplace wins in the past five years, WEX has been listed on Fortune magazine’s 2019 list of the 100 fastest-growing publicly traded companies. The magazine ranks foreign and domestic companies annually by factors such as revenue growth rate, earnings growth rate and total returns.

It’s a time of exciting expansion for our company, which achieved growth rates of 22 percent, 37 percent, and 33 percent in the past three years and opened our new downtown Portland headquarters this spring. WEX was the only Maine company to make Fortune’s list, coming in at No. 72 and was one of only three female-led companies to receive this year’s honor.

CEO Melissa Smith said the recognition “is a testament to the employees who work day in and day out around the world to help us achieve our goals. Their dedication is what sets WEX apart and will continue to fuel our growth.” WEX now has about 4,900 employees worldwide total revenue of $1.52 billion in the past four quarters.

To qualify for the Fortune ranking, a company has to be traded on a major U.S. stock exchange, have a minimum market cap of $250 million, and have posted an annualized growth rate in revenue and earnings per share of at least 20 percent annually, among other factors.

This was our first appearance on the list.
