Cares for Kids Radiothon

WEX Corporate Philanthropy and individual WEXers recently joined forces to make a powerful contribution to the 13^th annual Cares for Kids Radiothon to benefit The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH) in Portland, Maine. As a premier corporate sponsor of the event, we provided a $10,000 matching gift challenge for online donations. As a result, the Radiothon saw a significant increase in online giving over previous years, with 137 online donors contributing $10,982.

“WEX has been a long-time supporter of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, and we were thrilled this year to help them move the needle in online contributions,” said Melissa Dudley, our corporate philanthropy and community engagement manager. “These online donations also helped increase the number of monthly recurring pledges, allowing the hospital to grow sustained support over the course of the year. WEX provides matching gift incentives to organizations to help them grow their base of support, and we’re very pleased that this has paid off for BBCH.”

Twenty WEXers used their volunteer time off (VTO) so they could join patients, family members, and staff to kick-off the three-day campaign. Dressed for the Dr. Seuss-themed event, WEXers took part in the fun at the live radio broadcast, as well as manned phones and processed donations. Over 100 books for children of all ages were also donated by WEXers to the BBCH library.

Since 2006, the Cares for Kids Radiothon has raised over $1.6 million for The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, with 100% of those funds staying local to support BBCH programs and services. With over 100,000 annual patient visits, The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center treats children from all over Maine and northern New England. From routine check-ups and immunizations to the treatment of life-threatening illnesses and injuries, Maine’s only children’s hospital offers comprehensive, family-centered healthcare for all of northern New England.
