Here at WEX headquarters in South Portland, we’re in the doldrums of January. That makes it the perfect time to map out your next vacation—and to delve into our 2019 U.S. Travel Trends Report, which we released earlier this month with MasterCard.
The report sprang from primary consumer research that Mastercard advisors conducted exclusively for WEX, and we like to think that it’s something like a round-trip ticket through the mind of today’s American consumer. So what does he or she expect and desire for travel in 2019 and beyond?
We found that the influence of technology on the industry, both on the imagination and preparedness of American travelers today, cannot be overstated. From apps to chatbots, online travel agencies to sharing economy services to emerging payment preferences and methods, technology informs every detail of how Americans imagine, plan and book a trip.
