Happy International Women’s Day! A day designed to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, IWD 2017 calls for women around the world to #BeBoldForChange, striving for a more inclusive, gender equal world and calling for parity both in and out of the workplace. At WEX, we are committed to this cause, and are proud to share with you another story of one of our leaders who has embraced leadership roles throughout her career and forged her own path to become the Director of Product Marketing for the Asia-Pacific Region.
As part of our partnership with the Glass Hammer, a leading resource for women in the workplace looking for advice, networking opportunities, and coaching as they strive to enhance their careers, we are excited to share with you career advice from Susan Nicholson, Director of Product & Marketing for the Asia Pacific Region at WEX Australia.
In the article, Ms. Nicholson shares her path to success at WEX, which began in the buying office of Myer Department Stores. Over 13 years at Coles Myer/WESFARMERS, she expanded her role, participating in the launch of a Coles Supermarket scheme card they worked on with GE, then spending five years in a management role at GE before joining WEX in 2013 as a Head of Marketing, rapidly expanding her role over the past four years.
“You have to demonstrate mastery, but also align yourself to deliver on key outcomes and be a well-rounded leader. If you don’t work well with others, your ability to move up in the organization is hampered,” said Ms. Nicholson in her interview with The Glass Hammer.
In the full article, she goes on to discuss her achievements and the recognition WEX Australia has garnered under her leadership, offering advice for women looking to take charge in 2017.
“In today’s environment you need to create a culture and be a willing participant in a culture that isn’t afraid of failure, brave enough to try something new and figuring out new paths for organizational growth. Working with companies such as WEX with the freedom to explore, build and grow is really important to me in terms of career satisfaction,” she says.
Each month, The Glass Hammer featured the stories and achievements of female WEX employees to help women in the professional world reach higher in their careers.
The Glass Hammer was founded as a career resource for professional women. The site provided advice, coaching, and networking opportunities for professional women, namely in finance, technology, and banking. As a sponsor of The Glass Hammer, WEX contributed monthly to this immensely helpful, highly valuable resource for women as they reached higher in their careers and lives.
