Did you know that only 21% of American companies offer paid maternity leave, 17% include paid adoption leave, and 17% offer paid paternity leave? At WEX, we understand that our success is dependent upon our employees, and as part of our larger WEX Wellness and Development Initiative, we would like to introduce an expansion on our current paid leave policy.
Starting on September 1st, eligible WEX Employees in the United States will be able to take advantage of an expanded, extended, and enhanced parental leave policy designed to help new parents—whether by birth, foster placement, or adoption—take a more active role in family lives. The policy, which is retroactive to January 1 of this year, advances WEX’s position as a leading provider of family leave benefits.
This new, inclusive, gender-neutral policy will supplement our current six- to eight-week maternity leave policy, providing an additional six weeks of paid leave to all eligible new moms and dads.

As one of the first companies in Maine to offer this expanded parental leave program to our employees, we are proud to be on the forefront of US employers supporting family-focused benefits. Studies indicate that paid family leave offers greater benefits for parents, children and companies than those that can be achieved through maternity leave alone, as shared in the infographic below.
“At WEX, we recognize that our success is dependent on the success of our employees, and, as a result, we view paid parental leave as an integral part of our ongoing commitment to support employee health and wellbeing,” said Jenifer Rinehart, WEX’s SVP of human resources. “Expanding our parental leave program allows us to continue to excel in the industry, while offering employees support and flexibility through this incredibly pivotal time.”
At WEX, we strive to help our employees and their families to thrive, and investing in the health and wellbeing of our employees is our responsibility and our privilege. Community is one of our core values, and our new parental leave policy is just one example of our continued work to improve the lives of employees within this community.
