WEX President’s Club

Recognizing and celebrating outstanding performance by our associates is what the WEX President’s Club is all about. The nominees and recipients of this annual recognition bring to life the talent, drive, and enthusiasm that have fueled our growth and market leadership position for more than 20 years. We’ve just completed the 2016 President’s Club Awards activities, and they offer a glimpse into our people and our culture.

How nominees reflect those values is as diverse as the many roles people play throughout the organization. Going above and beyond in their job, exhibiting superior leadership, innovative contributions, wowing internal and external customers, problem-solving expertise, creating an environment of openness and trust – these are just some of the characteristics exhibited by President’s Club nominees and winners.

2016 President’s Club Highlights

The call for nominations this January garnered more than 250 submissions – with some people receiving multiple nominations. Beyond the prestige of being chosen as a President’s Club recipient, each of the winners is invited, along with a guest, on a special trip. Past excursions have included destinations including Aruba, Bermuda, St. John and Cancun.

This year, we changed things up a bit. For starters, we increased the number of President’s Club winners to 45 – up from 40 in previous years. We also expanded our horizons with the venue for the annual trip, choosing the historic Casino Estoril in Portugal – the inspiration for Ian Flemming’s James Bond and Casino Royal.

We announced the 2016 recipients and the trip location at our March company meeting 007-style, with CEO Melissa Smith making her stage entrance from the rafters as though being lowered from a helicopter. Take a look!

Jamie Baskin, director of finance for our EFS operation located in Nashville learned he was a President’s Club winner watching a live simulcast of the March company meeting where company CEO Melissa Smith announced the winners. “I was honored to be recognized for my hard work and dedication to the company. Hearing stories about other people going on President’s Club trips, I knew it would be an exciting time,” said Jamie.

President’s Club winners and guests converged on Casino Estoril the week of May 15^th from our locations in the U.S., the U.K. and Australia. Hosting the group were members of our executive leadership team whose sole function was to socialize and make sure our winners and their guests had a good time. The five days in Portugal included a tour of historic Lisbon as well as small group activities ranging from a jeep rally through the magnificent Sintra mountains to surf classes on the world-class waves of the Estoril coast. Capping the stay was an Awards Night filled with Portuguese food, music and wine, held at the breathtaking Colares Wine Cellar and vineyard, perched on cliffs overlooking the sea.

“I work out of a small office in St. Louis, so my exposure to people in some of our other WEX locations has been limited. It was really great to meet colleagues from multiple places and business units during the trip,” observed President’s Club winner Lisa Goldkamp, vice president of sales solutions for WEX Health. “I came away from the trip feeling even better about WEX, and I was feeling pretty darn good about WEX before! I think that’s because the people were so amazing, from Melissa to the other recipients – they are not just high-performing individuals, but also really nice people.”

The President’s Club is the highest form of recognition associates can receive at WEX, and we congratulate all the 2016 President’s Club nominees and winners on their accomplishments and dedication.
